Chris Hughes is a documentary filmmaker and producer from Bolton, UK. His first feature, Do You Own the Dançefloor? (2015), delves into the cultural legacy of Manchester’s legendary Hacienda nightclub. The film traces the stories behind the venue’s dismantled interior, auctioned off in 2000, and follows the surprising journeys these fragments took into the hands of devoted fans and collectors.
Inspired by his own purchase of a section of the Hacienda’s dancefloor, Chris set out to uncover why people felt compelled to own a physical piece of the club. He directed, wrote, and co-produced the film alongside Dan Lightening and Stuart Wareing.
Featuring contributions from figures such as Graeme Park, Mike Pickering, Peter Hook, and Liam Gallagher, the documentary blends humour and nostalgia with a deeper reflection on community and music history. Proceeds from the project were donated to Cancer Research UK, underlining its heartfelt connection to causes beyond the screen.
There will be Q&A with the writer and director Chris Hughes after the screening.
